Murcia region has always been synonymous with technological, innovative, and export-oriented agriculture, and for a few years, it has been synonymous with organic farming. Murcian agriculture is betting on the production of fruit and vegetables free of chemical substances and more respectful of the environment, and this is reflected in the increase in organic farming in Murcia.

The data of the annual balance of 2021 for organic agriculture, also known as biological or organic, in the region of Murcia already exceeds 100,000 hectares, this represents a total of 28.7% of the cultivated area.
Organic production is regulated by European regulations (Regulation (EC) 834/2077) that establish production, transformation, and labeling standards, to cultivate and care for the land in a way that respects the environment, without using chemical products (fertilizers, pesticides , herbicides, etc).

Murcia is one of the Spanish regions that has the largest proportion of arable land and currently has a total of 406 producers registered with the Council of Organic Agriculture of Murcia, in charge of controlling and granting the seal corresponding to this denomination. . Organic farming is becoming a key sector for sustainability on our planet and to provide consumer security.

The shared figures for the increase in the cultivated ecological area are 20% (18,401 ha) higher than in previous years. Of this area, the most important crops have been nuts (11,667 ha) with a growth of 35%, citrus fruits (1,213 ha) with 31% growth and vineyards (2,043 ha) with 16%, as well as other herbaceous crops which represent an increase of 19% with (1,820 ha).

Murcia region is betting on this type of crop, calling for aid for agro-environmental protection and the promotion of “bio” crops, and with subsidies related to the conversion to organic farming, to improve the environment. while increasing the quality and quantity of production.

Currently, the agriculture of this region already complies with the commitments reached according to the “Green Deal” in the European Union, whose one of the committed objectives is to reach 25% of the useful agricultural area in organic production before the year 2030.
